Unhappy vanishing gmails

I have quite a few folders that I use to keep emails in. I noticed yesterday that one folder (updated daily) was missing about 300 emails from mid september to a few days ago - thats 3 months, about 4MB's and umpteen pages of important saved emails. There is no way I could have accidentally deleted them. I am running IE6, nothing wrong with my system and I wondered if anyone else has had problems too? I have lost valuable emails and I reported it to the gmail team and their response was to give the normal gmail problem links, none of which are applicable. They are not in my gmail folders and my space has crashed to 11% of my storage when yesterday early it was showing 15%. Any help or advice at all would be appreciated.

I think this has happened to a lot of people, it is a bug in GMail's system AFAIK. Hopefully Google have been sensible with backups and with a bit of luck mail will be restored. I suggest you make a copy of all the mail in the account using something like Mozilla Thunderbird or Outlook express, and regularly so that you have a "hard" copy of your mail.

I thank you for that answer and I am rather relieved that there is a known problem. I can't actually save the emails on any alternative because of the size (I think OE limits you anyhow) I did contact gmail techies and was sent an email with links to answer well known obvious gmail problems - none of which was applicable to my own missing email problem.....so I really hope they restore my emails. If its happened to me then it must have done to other people.

After you say that none of those "links to well-known problems" didn't help you, they send you another email telling you what they can actually do. At least, they did that for me. Watch out for that.

Thats what I do which is why I am so annoyed that so many of my important emails have vanished - half way into my saved emails. According to gmail its my fault. Sure it is! I put them somewhere safe for reference and at some stage they have magically disappeared.

Has a day passed since you contacted Google?
They usually take a day to respond.

Well, yes they did get back to me. All they mentioned is that they dont know what happened to the mail, along with it cannot be retrieved. Consider this the last time i am going to use GMAIL.

For everyone else reading this, use GMAIL for your Junk Mail, never keep anything important inside like me.Google will delete your mail for you, how snobish!

At the moment i am disgusted with Gmail!
