what is considered "account activity" for gmail?

i've forgotten my password and i dont have access to the secondary email address that i gave them at the time of registration... so they told me to wait five days of "account inactivity" before they ask me my security question...

but it's been five days... and they still wont ask me the security question

i know that failed login attempts count as "account activity"... but does password retrieval attempts also count as "account activity?"

or should i start suspecting that someone has hacked my gmail?
