Gmail On Your Computer

I recently sent in a suggestion to Google that they should develop a program for you to use Gmail and all its features on your computer. I could just use the POP3 to get my Gmail in Outlook, but what's the point then? I wouldn't get any of the great features. I hope that this idea does come to, I would love to be able to write and download e-mails without ever opening a browser.

You think that might be coming as a companion to the "alleged" browser they are developing?

I haven't heard anything about a browser being developed by Google. If they were developing one, it would be mentioned in the Google Labs.

They don't need to develop a browser, anyways. I'd rather have them collaborate with Mozilla, because FireFox is already awesome.

Hmmm, a stand-alone application that connects to Google's Gmail servers and imitates the Gmail interface and serves as a front-end to utilize Gmail's great features without using a browser...sounds a like nice idea.
I hope it is provided with the same degree of security as the actual gmail web-interface.

The only thing that Google has done so far is to include a special toolbar in the FireFox browser that lets you search using Google.

These links give some info on the deal between Google and FireFox. I wouldn't be surprised if they did start developing their own browser, but to be perfectly honest, I don't think Google would want to compete with FireFox. Maybe they'd want to work on the FireFox browser, or purchase Mozilla or something similar, but not develop their own browser. They definitely support Mozilla and the work they do.

That gets me thinking...maybe Gmail could collaborate with Thunderbird...

That is kind of the rumor -- you are aware they hired firfox's top designer/engineer and more recently the guy that has been one of the project leaders for windows since the beginning.... This is fueling the rumors.

Not arguing - just giving you food for thought!

Don't worry, I've learned not to trust Internet rumors. You learn to do that when you're a video game enthusiast.
