Any way to not "attach" sent messages to the inbox?
I did do a quick search here, and elsewhere, hoping to find an answer to this question, and I came up empty. I very well may have missed it, so if I did, and if someone could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.
My question concerns how Gmail saves sent messages. I never liked how if you emptied your sent messages folder to the trash, then emptied your trash, it would also delete the original message you responded to that is still in your inbox (assuming you wanted to keep it). I got used to this, but last night, I neglected to be careful and a very important e-mail was deleted from my inbox because I deleted my response to that e-mail that was in my sent messages folder and emptied my trash as soon as I did that. To say I was upset is an understatement.
Given that, is there a way to make Gmail behave, I suppose, like most of the other e-mail providers out there in that if you respond to a message, you can freely delete your response from your sent folder and still have the original in your inbox?
Thanks for any and all help. I've been using Gmail for a very long while now, so just switching to Yahoo! or what not is not going to happen. This is the only issue I have ever had with Gmail, and last night it really slapped me in the face.
Again, thanks.
