Can I use xxxx@gmail.com rather than xxxx@googlemail.com in Europe
Hi,
I believe that within Europe we are given the email address of xxxx@googlemail.com by default. My question is that I would like to be able to use xxxx@gmail.com instead, is this possible? I had no choice when I set the account up but to use the Googlemail domain, but it appears that if I send an email to my same name at Gmail.com it still gets to me. In which case my only problem is can I change my default 'from' address to relect this, any ideas if this is possible please? (ie for clarity, I want to change my 'from' address from xxxx@googlemail.com to xxxx@gmail.com) Many thanks |

No you can't change it as far as I know, but you can still send messages to the @gmail.com.
The reason for this is that there is an ongoing legal problem with gmail and trademarks in the UK (and I think Germany). Quote:

Hi,
Thanks for both your replies, which are both very helpful. I was going to try a proxy based in the US to create a new GMAIL account, but I guess I would have to pretend to be resident in the US. I think I'll just live with the googlemail.com address after all, and just get a life instead!! Thanks again for all your help Adrian |

Yeah, but that's the only way.
Oh, but if you send emails to your @gmail.com ID and still get them at your @googlemail.com ID, then its OK. You can just tell everyone the ID xxxx@gmail.com, the emails will still come. Last edited by IamTheKing9; 01-17-2008 at 12:54 AM. |
