Embedded e-mail addresses (mailto) does not work properly

This is a problem that has cropped up suddenly and, while not major, is irritating. If I click on an embedded e-mail address (such as answering say a Craigs List ad) Gmail opens a new tab and acts like it is going to open the Compose Mail form. In the upper left corder it says "Loading..." but it never does. I can see it connecting to mail.google.com, then it says down in the lower left "Done" as if it has finished loading the page. The page simply stays blank. If I copy the e-mail address and then go to Compose Mail from GMail directly, the proper compose form appears and I can paste in the e-mail address manually and send a reply. It used to be all I had to do was click on an embedded e-mail and GMail would take me directly to the Compose Message page. No changes to my system, so I do not think that is the problem and I HAVE emptied the cache and history, hoping that would help (it did not).

Gmail works on Ajax, so even if your browser status bar says 'done', the page is, in fact, loading.
(A bit like when you've got flash files on a web page.)
But if the page used to load easily enough earlier, I don't really see any reason it should not load now.
Maybe some of our other experts can answer your question, sorry.

Have you made any recent changes to your computer or browser (like installing add-ons, etc.)?
