Yahoo Acquires Oddpost, to Compete with Gmail

Quote:
We all know the arrival of Gmail has initiated a new round of competition amongst the major webmail providers. Well, Yahoo! has acquired Oddpost and will be integrating Oddpost's amazing interface to strengthen its offerings. One might wonder though how to reconcile Oddpost's MSIE requirement with Yahoo!'s (thus far) cross-platform approach.

There are two kinds of acquistion. one type of acquisition is for growth, where there should be synergies. Another type is to cut down the potential competitors. I feel the acqusition of oddpost by MS is second type.

Microsoft doesn't own Yahoo and therefore didn't aquire Oddpost

If Google makes an email program, or better yet: partners with Mozilla for Thunderbird, then Yahoo's screwed

i dont think microsoft isnt any where near the competition gmail needs. microsoft and yahoo will always be behind. oddpost isnt that good of a webmail service dut to me using it for a while on a website of mine. now if gmail does partner up w/ mozilla for thunderbird the i do agree...yahoo is screwed. the next step for google to be on top is an all around kick butt messenger program.
