gmail + pop3 + imap + mail

Hi all!

This is my first post

Here is my question. I have multiple accounts on different email providers, so I used gmail to consolidate everything. It works great! However, I would like to use my mail program on the mac or the pc.

Here is my question:

let's say I have an email account on example.com: mattr@example.com.

I configure gmail so that it fetches the email from example.com. If I use gmail to reply, then everything works fine, it replies as if I was mattr@example.com.

Now I configure IMAP on the computer to access gmail. I receive an email that was sent from xyz@mail.com to mattr@example.com. How do I configure my email or gmail so that I can reply to this email as mattr@example.com?

If I use gmail, it works fine, it does "reply as". But in my pc, how can I do the same thing? All replies are sent from mattr@gmail.com.

Any advices?

Thanks!

Matt.

In Outlook

In Outlook, if you have multiple accounts set up, you can choose which account to reply with by selecting the account in your reply window. There should be a button with a drop down menu to the right of the "Send" button that says "Accounts".

It will probably be different in each eMail program.

Ah but I only have one account: the gmail account. When I receive email via IMAP it shows "From: xyz@mail.com" To: mattr@example.com, which is perfect. Now I want to reply as mattr@example.com, not mattr@gmail.com.

mattr@example.com is unknown to my PC. So the question is. How do I tell gmail that when it gets a send email request, it should substitute mattr@gmail.com to mattr@example.com like it does on the web page?

Matt.

Let's say I receive email from fred@toto.net. What I see in my email client is "From fred.toto@net" To: "mattr@example.com".

How can I reply so that gmail will substitute the name like it does on the web. If I reply, the reply will come as "mattr@gmail.com".

If I use gmail on the web, then the reply comes as mattr@example.com

Matt.
