Defeated by Gmail, can anyone assist?

Hello everyone new to this forum but not new to forums in general. Can anyone assist as I've been defeated by Gmail? Short history, just gone to Sky Broadband - total incompetents, for whatever reason I have no Sky email account so have had to use Gmail, not the end of the world I know but annoying nonetheless. Anyway to the point - I have three computers and want to be able to retrieve or read mail from anyone of them. I set up all the accounts and enabled POP3 as I'm using Outlook. I then went into advanced tab in Outlook when setting up the accounts there and ticked the boxes "leave a copy of messages on server" "remove from server after X amount of days" and finally "remove from server when deleted from Deleted Items. This should do it as I have used this method before when I was with BT - it's also the method MS tell you to use.

Despite doing this I am only getting mail on the PC I send it from e.g. as a test I sent test mail to the two other email addresses. This should be picked up on my two other computers but it isn't being, it's only being picked up on the PC that I send it from and I have tried it on all three. Is there a setting somewhere that I should have ticked in Google setup?

Are you checking the same account from all three computers? If so, use IMAP instead of POP to access your mail. Outlook is really stupid in how it handles IMAP mail, but Google will only download POP email to one computer and then from there you have to go through extra steps to get those messages on another computer.

If it's as in our case...

...even though your preferred email pop server for download is gmail, your ISP is still "in the loop", que no? So (if it's like us) you still have to have the ISP's email account set up a "filter" to forward its incoming mail to the appropriate gmail account. Say, if "incoming address contains TO 'me@gmail.com' then forward to ... and like that.

Even though the ISP is not being used for pop download (gmail is being used) it's still there.

That's totally wrong. Your ISP is merely your connection to the Internet. I use Gmail with forwarding and I don't even have an email account with my ISP. They send me their mail at my Gmail address.

You can set up Gmail on a desktop client and in the web control panel you can set up forwarding and never have to input your ISP mail servers at all.

Basically No.

See this thread. Gmail on 2 computers

Whichever computer first downloads the mail, prevents the others from getting it. Gmail does not work as a normal POP3 mail service.

You seem savvy enough though, to use IMAP as a workaround.
