"Labels" feature has a problem, "Labels"

Hello guys,

Just want to ask something regarding gmail.

In gmail there is what we called "Labels" it is one of the features and it act maybe just like "Folder"?

In other webmail services like Yahoo, Hotmail they have this "Folders" where you can index all your emails from a particular sender.

Like for example I have emails which I subscribed from Yahoo then all those emails received will be index into one folder as "Yahoo Subscriptions"

another you subscribed for porn pictures then upon receiving it from the inbox you will move it to "Folders" right?

I am just wondering when I move my mail from inbox to a label it was ok at first, but after I moved my mail then ofcourse I now gonna delete the mail from the inbox because I know that I already have a copy of it in my Labels/Folders...the problem is that when I deleted my mail from the inbox my mail which is under the "Labels" was also deleted.

HELP.

Thank you.

Label is not same as creating folders in other Services. In gmail if you label any conversation you are puttind an extra tag to it. In layman terms it will mark that conversation with the label. It will not make any folder named label and place you conversation into that.So instead of deleting the conversation just archive it so it will not be shown in Inbox but it will remain in labels.

In technical terms :

Lets us suppose that Google maintains a huge database for all the mails it gets.

The primary key is obviously user name. It may have several other fields like starred(Y or N), label( label name ) etc etc etc....... This is just a guess. So when you label any conversation that field is updated with that "label" and you see you convestaion that label group. Same thing will be used if you star any conversation. The field will be updated to Y and a star will be shown with all such conversations.

I hope u understood..

tokkolo is an unknown quantity at this point
Send a message via MSN to tokkolo
Extra info: If you want to keep the message, but get it out of your inbox, give it a label (for organising perposes, not nessesary) and archive it. When labeled you can still find it in the label and when not, it will still be in "all mail".
