Odd Formating when cut/paste from Word
Hello Gmail forums,
I like to write my mails in word and then cut and paste into gmail. But when I do this, I get really strange formatting problems in the gmail. For example, All "new lines" become "double new lines"; so I must erase one "return" All "double new lines" become "tripple new lines with spaces added at the front of each line. And other strange things happen like the down key doesn't go down one line but goes down to the bottom of the email. And the curser flashing marker dissapears. It takes me a while to "clean-up" the mail again after cut and paste from word. Any idea why this happens and if there is a way to stop it? It doesn't happen when I cut and paste into yahoo mail. And I have no formatting on the word document (I clear all formats from the word document before cutting and pasting). Any ideas for smooth cut and paste from word to gmail would be appreciated. Thanks, Drew |

I've used cut and paste from Word documents before (did it just this evening) and I don't have the problem that you describe. I am using Word 2007 but I save everything in .doc, not the newer .docx.
Can I just ask why you would go to all that trouble for an email? If you are removing formatting and just cutting and pasting text why not just use the editor in Gmail or Yahoo Mail? Failing that, do you have Outlook? If so, access Gmail through IMAP and use Word as your editor in Outlook. |

I didn't encounter that problem...
I really don't know what's the problem in your gmail... but you can use the notepad... sometimes I do that in some cases... I copy my file and paste it to the notepad and transfer it to its destination... to make sure it will not inherit some properties from the original source... but I think that is not a best way to solve your problem... I just giving you an option... |

Thanks so much,
both of these suggestions helped. If I cut and paste into notepad before gmail, the formatting ends up OK. Or if I click the gmail option for "plain text" BEFORE pasting, it comes out OK. Seems that the format screw-up is happening in word. Odd, since even if I try to "clear all formats" from word, it still ends up screwy in gmail. Anyway, I will just keep gmail on "plain text" and I am very happy with that. Thanks so much, Drew |
