Does a gmail account will be ever deleted?

Just wondering if I wont log on for like a year or so if gmail wont delete the account like hotmail for instance.

Your account is dormant after 6 months. After that you have 90 days to log in or have your account deleted at Google's option. Your account might be there after a year, then again it might not.

If you never logged for 6 months or so, it's possible that your account will be deleted.

Does downloading mail via POP3 count to keep an account active, or do I really need to literally log on?
