Gmail to reach 10gb in June 2009?

I was having a look at the little peice of code in the gmail home page today to have some idea of when they will reach 10gb, and i discovered this:

Those are unix timestamps with the storage size in mb next to them, I was able to take the current timestamp with the current limit (1199433600000, 6283) and subtract the former (1193122800000, 4321) and using the difference divided by the amount of space multiplied by 10240mb added to todays time I get "Sun Jun 14 23:45:22 UTC+1200 2009" which by their figures would be when we end up with a 10gb Inbox.

I dont know if the figures they use are to remain, as at the current rate you would reach 20480mb (20gb) by "Thu Jul 1 04:57:40 UTC+1200 2010"

Gmail is still in beta, I have a feeling that the storage capacity would go unlimited before June 2009, maybe soon..

My calculations were by using their math, which is what makes that little counter tick on the main page. So they probably will increase it further indeed, However unlimited is a big number.

I remember that there was this time when that ticking was a bit faster..

Yahoo made their storage unlimited some time ago, I'm sure google will do the same soon..

Yes, Yahoo went "unlimited" some time ago, but they use the same definition of "unlimited" that your cable ISP or cell phone provider uses. "Unlimited" until we say you have used to much. There is a cap which several Yahoo's have admitted to the Wall Street Journal and others, but it is an inviscap.

You won't know when too much is too much, but they will tell you when they cancel your account for abuse. My hope would be that Google continues with their set storage cap unless they actually intend to do truly unlimited storage. For me, I am at 2.5GB of usage for my Gmail account and can't complain at all.

oh I didn't know yahoo had a cap for their email storage... are there any other free web based email that offers unlimited storage?
