Help with Contact List

I am trying to save a friend in my Contact List. Their address is in the following format: a&b-smith@telus.net

My Gmail Contact List will not allow me to store this address and tells me it is "Not a legitimate address" or something like that. I assume it is because of the hyphen (or maybe the "&"?). In any case Gmail receives and sends mail to these people, it just will not let me save their address.

owh that is strange...but i guess each site has its own instructions...so, probably Gmail has gotten kinda of such stuff...ok, try to add this person in another account, or u only have gmail account?
i mean why dont u try to sign in another account at yahoo or hotmail if u really need the address of that person..or just ask him or her to do another account that is formed in a simple shape without compication...

I think gmail will not allow to use special characters like "&" on the address. I'm not sure but I see that this is one of the reason why gmail did not accept that format
