Talk about bad timing. I left for a four city tour of Europe on Friday May 30, and things were going great. I was able to check my e-Mail from the apartment we rented in Paris right up until (I think it was) Tuesday afternoon. At that time I went to log into my gmail account and got "Sorry, your account has been disabled." No explanation, nothing!
I followed all the links, filled out all the forms, told them multiple people I send e-Mail to on a regular basis, gave them the names of several of my gmail folders, did everything they asked. All I got in return was a wait 24 hours and try again. I waited 24 hours and many, many more, then filled out additional forms answering even more questions and got in return; "Google takes abuse situations like this very seriously. We apologize for what you have experienced in this regard." And a link to even more forms to fill out, which I did. All this and never have I been told what happened, why my account has been frozen or taken away, no explanation what so ever. For example what IS the "abuse" I'm being accused of doing, if they would tell me I would promise to never do it again. So what's my problem, my problem is I've had this account for many years, almost since Google started giving them away, I got my invite as I recall from Leo LaPort himself on TechTV. I use my gmail as my information source, my record keeper, my personal secretary my on the go PDA if you will. Now I have nothing and worse I don't know why. So here it is, how do I get it back, and if I can't get it back how do I get my e-Mail cache moved to one of my many other accounts. |

Password forgotten - account disabled - password remembered
I've been using Gmail for about 2 years, and I liked it and it's features very much. But 3 days ago I CHANGED MY OLD PASSWORD and the next day I COULDN'T REMEMBER THE NEW ONE. I followed the instructions and filled in some forms, but failed to find my password. After I shrank my brain after some hours, fortunatelly I remembered my password, but WHEN TRIED TO SING IN to gmail it said SORRY, YOUR ACCOUNT IS DISABLED. How can I have my account back? Now I remember all my dettails but my account can't be back, and there isn't any help how to mail them and give them my personal info so that they may believe. What can I do? |

The only thing that you can do is to continue going through the contact form and try to convince Google that you are the account holder. Whatever it is that they ask you to fill out, fill it out. In terms of getting your mail out of this Gmail account and into another email account, if you didn't use a desktop email client to download your messages via POP or IMAP then there isn't anything that you can do. I always recommend to people that are not using a desktop email client with their Gmail account to use Google Desktop Search and enable it for your Gmail account. This will cache a local text only copy of your Gmail that is searchable. I'm afraid that if you didn't prepare for the worst, and you can't convince them to let you back in to your account again that you are stuck. |

I never implied they disable it for "giggles", but they did disable it for some reason they are not willing to disclose. I'm glad they want to protect me but it would help if a human was at Google that could handle this type of problem. They have no customer support for Gmail, I called. And for what it's worth, I did not break any of their TOS, not one item.
You say I should have had a back-up on my hard drive. They're entire campaign to use Gmail was based on the idea you didn't have to have a local copy. There are much better e-Mail packages than Gmail if I wanted to store everything on my hard drive. I use them for this feature more than any other, the ability to refer back to what has been without storing it local. Size is an issue. After using Gmail for as long as I have and putting others on it as often as I have I think Google owes me and all customers an ombudsman to resolve this kind of issue, and that's my opinion. Not having some way to resolve this issue shows a callousness that is already way to prevalent in corporate America and that I thought Google was above. Guess I was wrong. |

Now, I'm sorry that I seem to have pissed you off. You have a problem and I empathize with you on that point. I don't care about what you think Google owes you, but I wish you well as you try to get your account back. From past experience you will succeed. |
