When will the fix be here?
I'm still experiencing problems with my Gmail account. I am unable to do anything but "Load basic HTML." From there I can write new messages, but trying to upload an attachment never completes; however, I discovered later that it had completed but at the time of completion, there was never any indication that it had done so.
One thing that was suggested by admin was to disable the "Labs" feature. I cannot do that from the basic HTML version of Gmail. Before the problems, there was a "Labs" tab on my "Settings" page when I went there from my inbox. Now after clicking the "Settings" tab from the basic HTML inbox, the "Labs" tab is no longer present. This is highly annoying, especially for those of us who rely heavily on Gmail for personal and business contacts. |

How quickly you get a fix depends on how quickly you take action. You don't have a Gmail problem, you have a browser problem IMHO. Try accessing Gmail from another browser on the same computer to see if that clears that issue up for you.
Clearing cache and cookies has worked for most that I know that had this problem but one guy needed to create a new profile in Firefox to clear the issue. Almost to a person they were using older computers with little RAM. |

IMHO, a little condescending, but an acceptable answer
Thanks for your reply. I found that clearing my cache solved the problem before hearing it from you. I'm wondering why this problem seemed to surface when I began using the Beta version of Firefox 3?
And I tried IE 6 before posting here and the problem was still apparent. My computer may be "old" in that I'm using Windows 2000 and it was purchased in 2003, but I have 1 gig of RAM and that's been sufficient for my purposes. From now on, I will try clearing my cache first before posting here. Perhaps then I can avoid condescending responses. Nonetheless, your time and reply is appreciated. |

Maybe next time you post you don't make the assumption (When will the fix be here?) that the problem has to be on Google's end and not your own. Tends to cut down on condescending responses. I deal with people every day that ALWAYS assume that the issue has to be somewhere other than on their end.
Your computer is older, and while it may meet your needs it needs care and attention. How many times have you done a clean install of the OS? If never that is a huge problem with a Win2K machine. How often do you defrag? If IE hung on it as well that would lead me to believe that your system is simply not running as well as it could be. |

I defrag regularly but have never attempted a "clean install." May I bother you with a question on how to go about doing that? Or should I seek advice elsewhere because you think I'm an idiot? I will admit to basic computer literacy and try hard to keep my system "running as well as it could be" by using Ad-Aware, Error Expert, and good anti-virus software.
Again, thanks, and please forgive my shortcomings. |

A clean install is a format and reinstalling Win2K on your current system. You need to do it with the option of deleting the partition, formatting the drive and reinstalling.
Back up all of your files to an external hard drive or CD's and DVD's and start over. I never would go much more than 18 months on Win2K, 24 months on XP without starting over. I will say that if your system overall is running well, doesn't take an excessive amount of time to start up or shut down, start programs and access files maybe you just leave it alone. I never called you an idiot, and never came close to calling you an idiot. |
