Gmail & AOL problem

I`ve seen similar questions regarding this problem with Hotmail. I Have an AOL friend that I exchanged emails with for several years. When I switched to Gmail I could neither send nor receive emails with his AOL address. The message I get on sending includes this phrase "The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 MAILBOX NOT FOUND (state 14)." I can forward that same message to myself at another email address and reforward it to the friend`s same AOL address without any problem. Is there any way that I can correct this? TIA

Although I know that Gmail is know for it's quite conservative spam filtering, this is obviously not a case of that. I know this sounds silly, but did you double check the address? Also, try creating an AOL account yourself and send a message to it. If that also bounces, there's probably something wrong with your email settings and you should probably contact Google.
