In some Gmail messages, why aren't I seeing the images?

This happens only in Internet Explorer 7. If given the option, I always click either the button that says Show Images or Always Show Images. My Adobe Flash Plug-in is up to date. I even tried selecting Basic HTML at the bottom of the screen where it reads Gmail view.

That's a new one. Are you sure you have allowed IE to open images on a page from other sources? You already said you have said 'show images' in gmail settings.
