notifier and default mail application

Hey guys, sorry if this is a re post that somebody else did, but how often does the GMail notifier actually check for email? i see it takes a while to notice, because i have to right click on it and click Check Mail Now, does it not check by its self, can i make it faster???? and, can i set it as my default mail application, because i know it sets GMail as your mailto handler, but what about DEFAULT mail program, if nobody can do this, i can try making a program that does.

If anyone knows how to set up G-mail as the "default SYSTEM mail" I would love to know -- all notifier does is default web "mailto:" links.

ya, but if you didn't notice things like MSN, open your default mailto: handler. so basicly it is the default. if you don't like it, just set up outlook as pop.

I thought the discussion was about the system default mail (i.e. when you right click and select "send to mail recipient") - maybe I was wrong.

I'm very interested in this too... my wife uses XP's "Send To/Mail Recipient" to send photos, because she needs to resize the photos smaller. I haven't been able to get gmail to be the default mail application for that, even though I have set it up to be the default for "mailto:" hyperlinks.

Did you ever figure it out? I don't want my wife to go back to Outlook Express

The GMail notifer should be able to make it the default. That or get Firefox and get the GMail extension that makes it the default.

No the GMail notifier only makes it the default for mailto: hyperlinks. It does not make it the default for Windows XP's "Send To / Mail Recipient", after right-clicking on, say a photo. That is the whole reason for this thread.
