Red face setting up a class of students with their own gmail account

forgive me if this topic has already been covered in the past, i searched but was unable to find an answer.

i am a public school teacher and would like my students to have their own gmail accounts, so that we can share documents and use knol, sites, blogger, etc. upon leading the class through the sign-up procedure, once they began to submit their registration, the entire class received a fail error. i'm sure this is due to google's ip tracking and spam protections.

does anyone know a way around this so my 30 students can have gmail?

Try to disable your IP address so that google won't trace yoiur IP address.

There is no way you are going to be able to set up that many Gmail accounts from the same IP address. Aside from setting them up, you will have further issues down the road if 30 kids all try to access a different Gmail account from the same IP address as well.

Ok, here's a possible solution for you, assuming you're willing to spend ~$10 and got some technical skills.
  1. Go to GoDaddy (or your provider of choice) and buy a domain name for the class
  2. Set up Google Apps to work with the domain (it's free)
  3. Create email accounts for all the students in the class
In addition to solving the problem with creating the user accounts, this will also open administrative doors when it comes to other Google Apps.

Good luck.
