Multiple people using mail client to access Gmail

I have a few people that need to able to download emails to an email client on their PCs. I have a few questions.

1. For the above scenario, is it better that I use POP3 instead of IMAP?

2. Can you recommend a Client, apart from Thunderbird, (my boss\father-in-law uses Thunderbird for another email account, and I don't want to confuse him)?

3. I tried a couple of clients and am having the same following problem with each. I installed both of these a few days ago, and received all the emails.
Today, when I receive, both apps tell me that I've received all emails, even though I see newer ones directly in GMail. Have I messed up on the POP settings in GMail, or what?

Thanks

1) IMAP is more beneficial in most situations. Contrary to POP, IMAP enables you to have several computers hooked up to the same email account and they will keep in sync (ie. office and home).

2) Thunderbird is great. Maybe not as visually pleasing as Apple Mail, but it sure beats Outlook both in terms of security and price.

3) Not sure about that (maybe I don't understand the scenario completely). Yet, my recommendation would be to switch to IMAP and see if that resolves the problem.
