Cant log into gmail: Junk characters displayed!

Until now gmail was working perfectly on my system on both internet explorer as well as firefox. All of a sudden something went wrong with internet explorer and now whenever i log into gmail, i get the following set of junk characters displayed on my screen:

‹³É(ÉÍ±ãâ²ÉHML±ã²ÉM-ITÈ())ÐM-,Í,³uÎÏ+IÍ+Ñ ©,HUH†pl•JR+JôA:*’3‹ŠSKlCCÜt-”€&èCLâ²IÊO©òÓ€šŠ3«Rmµ í|òS2óÒõôôlôA õu `§ž-eÛ’

The above is all that is displayed on the entire browser window and gmail doesnt work. However this problem isnt prevalent in firefox.

I have tried clearing the internet explorer cache, temp files and cookies - but no use.

Any solutions? Please help.

I use Opera 8 and GMail works ok =/

check your internet connection, your cookies state, your temporary web pages...

(i prefer to delete them all when something is not working)

if the problems remain the same, just switch to Opera :P... my girlfriend uses firefox and a former version of mozilla, and i must say, Opera is way better, lighter and faster... (Opera.com doesn't pay me) :P

Anyways, looks like a character encoding problem.

Encoding problem =/
switch browser... it may solve.

If you have Labs enabled, disable Labs by visiting http://mail.google.com/mail/?labs=0. It should work then. Try to reenable Labs. If it doesn't work, then disable Labs again and, disabling each Lab feature one by one, find out which Lab feature is the problem.
