Illegal attachments

Hi, i received an invite for registering a Gmail account.
After having submitted it, i configured it into thunderbird client, and i started sending mails.
ONLY with the Gmail account i can't send all the types of attachments: i often get an error saying "illegal attachment".
So i tried discovering what was the problem, and i was only able to understand i can't send all compressed files.
Could anyone help me, please?

Thanks

As a security measure to prevent potential viruses, Gmail does not allow users to receive executable files (such as files ending in .exe) that could contain damaging executable code.

Gmail does not accept these types of files, even if they are sent in a zipped (.zip, .tar, .tgz, .taz, .z, .gz) format. Any message of this type sent to your Gmail account will be bounced back to the sender.

Renaming

I suppose that you could change the attachment's extension by renaming it, then tell the person you're sending the email to that they should change the extension back to .exe.

It also allows .tar, .gz and .tar.gz files. 7Zip and Gnuzip (Linux users should know what that is).

thanks, but what kind of annoying issue is that!
even if i use a tar.gz compression for an infected exe files, i will be however able to send it!
GMail seemed so good...
Renaming isn't comfortable, i'll use a gz compression...

They're trying to stop the transfer of viruses by doing a very very simple method and yet prevent sharing of programs and the like.
