gmail domains in thunderbird

Good evening to all.
I am a new participant in this forum and have a question.
I have a gmail domain i purchased and use for e-mail (me @ domain.com)
I and trying to configure thunderbird in ubuntu to open this mail. After following all the directions in gmail help more time than I can count I am still unable to create an account.
to make matters even more interesting I have been successfull in creating a thunderbird account for a standard "gmail" address. Any Ideas? Thanks for for your input in advance.

Have you set up the domain and created the account in Google Apps (google.com/a)?

yes I did, I have tried changing the server settings etc etc... still no luck

did you use the username user@domain.com? Also, make sure to enable IMAP in the account (assuming you're using IMAP in TB).

yes, I have changed the the server name from "me" @domain.com to pop@domain.com to imap@domain.com and back again, I have enable pop and imap.
still stuck
