gmail RSS/unable to log into gmail

A couple weeks ago I was unable to log into my gmail account for several days. I tried several browsers and several computers. I cleared my cache and cookies. I suspect it has something to do with accessing my gmail with an RSS feed at the time. But I still couldn't log on for days after I stopped using the RSS feed. It all works fine now, but I am afraid to play around with any RSS/gmail stuff. Does anyone know anything about why this happened to me?

hmm, someone can't wait a few hours?

Now, give us DETAILS! Do you get an error when trying to login?

I was getting an error that said something like, "Sorry, google is unavailable, please try again in a few minutes." When I cleared my cookies I would get the login page again, but once I tried to log in, it would bring me back to the error page. Going to gmail.com would also bring me directly to the error page until I deleted my cookies. And as I said, my account failed on several computers with several browsers, and occured roughly around the time I was accessing gmail's RSS (or atam?) feed with Opera, and continued to be inaccessable several days after I stoped ussing the RSS feed.

Come on. I'm dying here for anything anyone might know about this. I was screwed for a few days without access to my primary email account that included some of my most important information. I want to know what I can do to make sure this never happens again. I was left out in the cold by gmail.

Well, if you don't know what happened, but you think it wight have to do with RSS, don't use RSS. But i doubt its using RSS or Atom (whichever you were using)

It could just be that a cluster of gmail's servers went down for a few days and it hapeened to be when you used RSS. It could have also been a file in your spam or trash box that had screwed it up but got deleted later. It could also have been a change in the gmail layout that didn't work for a section of the world, or your username, or anyone for that matter.

Did you try using the HTML version of gmail? That version works everywhere, even on the damned Macs at school with 128Mb of RAM and Mac OS 9.1. One computer takes a half-hour to boot up, then it crashes after like one process, it literally crashes after the Apple menu shows up no matter when I do it.

I recommend just using Gmail the way its intended, browser interface and everything. I use Gmail Notifier for Firefox but it uses the same protocol as the notifier made for windows so no worries.

I wasn't able to log in at all to try HTML mode. To be clear, my account was inaccessible only for a few days and this was a month or so back. And because of how painful it was for me to be shut out from my primary email account, I'm afraid to ever again use the RSS feed for gmail just because it is possible that it caused the failure.

That you for your thoughts on what happened. I was hoping for a simple answer so I could be sure this would never happen again. I don't like knowing that my account can screw up unpredictably and for unknown reasons.

Gmail is free after all.

If you really want an email address you can count on, get an ISP email. Depending on which ISP you have, contact them and get an email address or just use the one sitting on a notepad.

These usually are POP3 accounts and so you can really have as much space in your email account as you have in your computer.
