I guess you get this:

Quote:
Reset Password

Please follow the instructions sent to the secondary email address you provided previously. If you aren't sure exactly what address that is, please check your other email accounts. If you are unable to find the message we sent you, please click here.
If there is no secondary email address associated with your account or you no longer have access to your secondary email address, please try the 'Forgot your password?' link again in a few days.

At that point, you will be able to reset your password by answering the security question you provided when you created your account. To prevent someone else from trying to break into an account you are actively using, the security question is only used for account recovery after an account has been idle for five days.

Please note that the Gmail Support Team cannot waive the five day requirement or access your password under any circumstances

How does someone hack a gmail account, the accounts are on there own servers, so doing the yahoo hack dont work, and i've not seen a new way for a while. Were you dumb enough to use a 'real' word? or your username?
Unless it was an inside job, like a google empolyee that hates you.

more then likely who ever did it made it so its so simple to get your password back. When you make a gmail email i think there is a section where you can enter an email thats outside gmail, and thats where your password would be sent.

Why would anyone want to hack a gmail email, its not to hard to find an invite.

Well then there is really nothing to do besides contact Google and try to work it out with them. But use this as a lesson for your future. Remember not to use the same password for more than one service and use non-dictionary alphanumeric passwords of 12 characters or greater.

Oh, and one more suggestion:

Read or listen to the following two episodes of Security Now! with Steve Gibson regarding passwords.

Read SN-004 Personal Password Policy
Read SN-005 Personal Password Policy - Part 2

Listen to SN-004 Personal Password Policy

He explained why that wouldn't work. Because he made the mistake of using a 'universal' password.

I'm guessing; once the 'hacker' got into the gmail account, he had access to the profile page, which listed the "secondary account", which he got into with the same password. So, the poster has also lost access to that secondary account, to which the 'forgotten password question' would have been sent.

Nowhere near as many security precautions as should have been taken as a matter of course, let alone for a 'file uploading' set-up.
