April 14 2009. Gmail freezes two browsers

As the title says I am unable to use gmail. Both Safari and Firefox on my Mac freeze after several seconds. I can see the emails but can't click any and then I have to force quit the browser. Trouble?

Try to re-install safari & firefox ! Install necessary plug-ins,flash players.

Try to find when the problem arises ,when using standard view/basic html version of gmail.

I was able to log into my wife's gmail account so I didn't think it was the browsers themselves. I reluctantly re-booted and the problem disappeared. Mac users are loath to admit the need for a reboot
