Gmail Draft - Word Processor (concept)
In reference to this forum:
http://www.googlecommunity.com/about7357.html After they turned on the Autosave for drafts in the Gmail. It dawned on me that someone could almost use the Drafts as a mini Word processor for new documents that they want to create and access from any computer on the net. Especially with the safety of the Autosave and many of the tools you find in word processors including spell check. One could in fact create whole documents and save them from any computer. Not to mention emailing them to your boss, or copy/pasting them to WORD. |

You're right...
Texx4linux, you've hit upon a novel idea. Of course anybody could use the Drafts section of GMail to save any kind of Word files (by copying and pasting them). And because of the Auto-Save feature, the file (or draft) will be saved even if the browser crashes.
And then, like you said, you could just e-mail them to somebody. Then he/she (the receiver of the e-mail) could just copy what was written and paste them in Word and save the file. Easy job. No need for attachments. |

Now that Google and Sun have been teaming up it has seemed that everyone seemes to get all excited about the concepts of a possible Google OS or Online Office so I though I'd go searching around looking for another company that might be doing something similar just to see what it might feel like if anything "ONLINE" feels right.
After reading an article about different Office Suites in my recent eWeek Mag I found the website http://online.thinkfree.com A free online Browser based Office that uses Java and your Browser. You even get 30Mb of space from the price of FREE. Anyway, I thought of a Googlized Openoffice Online type thing like this Thinkfree Office the whole time I was using it and I really think it is a good idea. I know the concepts in Gmails Drafts Section already, but if they make one like this and better. Google or Sun would really have a HIT on there hands. |

Naturally, there would be a desire to move some basic procedures away from the local drive, and on to the Internet. How better to control the software, the portals, the advertising content, the tracking of sheep-habits to feed them those 'targeted' ads that make the advertizers' panties damp. Uh, no thanks. I'd prefer to keep my business on my machine, and away from Corporate Curiosity. |

Consider, if you did your business in an 'online' office. You write your letters, balance your books, pay your taxes. Conduct a normal 'business' life. All of this could be perused by 'bots to feed your advertising, the same way that your Google mail is treated now. Nothing is 'free'. You pay with your privacy, and your willingness to be a potential consumer. |
