Gmail release in the UK

Does anyone have any idea when Gmail is likely to be available in the UK?

Why do you ask this, William? Isn't GMail available in the United Kingdom (UK). I had thought it was.

Well, what you say might be right, Jimbob1989... maybe he means without an invitation. But how can you use GMail without getting an invitation from somebody who is already using it...?

It's just a matter of getting an invitation, which is easy enough to do. There are usually some free for the taking in the top thread in this forum. That's why it's there.

Thanks for your responses. My query is based on the fact that when I tried to register for Gmail I was told that it had only been released in the US and was by invitation only. Are you saying that I can get a US invitation or that my information is incorrect/out of date?

It was certainly my impression that it's available in the UK. I know that's it's not restricted to the US, as it is available here in Canada. As far as I know, the only US-only restriction is the ability to register via cellphone, without an invitation.

But why wonder? I suggest you try one of the links in the Gmail Invitation thread. Just make sure it's from a recent post, as they do expire. And if you get one that has expired, or been 'taken', just try another, or keep an eye out for a fresh posting.

GMail is available here in India, and also in many other countries. I think that it must be available in the UK. It simply has to be.
