Hey SatChitAnanda,
Let me tell you that the maximum message size allowed by GMail is 10MB. That means that the whole e-mail - words, attachments, whatever - should be of 10MB or less.

I'm pretty sure I once received an email with attachments totalling something like 12MB. Has anyone else been able to eceed the limit?

Well, I haven't been able to get over the maximum message size limit prescribed by Google. And I think you need to check that e-mail (which was of 12MB). And here's a direct quote from Google -

d max i was abl to receive is 9mb... im quite sure that we wudnt recv mor than 10mb.. but smtyms it mite work... if thr is ONLY a slight difrnt..

I ve recieved a file thats 10 Megs before though i think google should raise the limit if possible!

Of course Google should raise the limit if it can. We will be able to send and receive bigger e-mails and/or/with attachments.

Google 10Mb emails

Well instead of converting this to MIME, which is pretty slow in itself, why doesn't google just create google share? a one time download service?? where people can place a file, and once they place it, it will alert the other person that the file is available for download. Of course the file would have to timeout to stop people from spreading warez over the network. But i'm sure Google could manage it!
