contacts last name before first?

Hi, the biggest gripe I have about gmail and the way it holds it's contacts is it doesn't seperate first and last name. Then it sorts by first name. I was manually putting my contacts in and putting last name comma first name. But new contacts that get auto entered in are first name then last name. So then I have 50/50 of both which makes it really confusing. I just got to thinking maybe I could create a field in my contacts for first and last name...

How is everyone dealing with this? If I need to add to my contacts Joe and Missy Ferguson... I then look up Missy... I forgot I put it under Joe. They both have the last name Ferguson and it's just so much easier if it would sort by last name.
