vowel mutation (umlaut)

Hi,

I am German and I have a problem with the umlauts (ä, ö, ü) which are used in German language.

A friend of mine has problems with mails of me, there are no umlaut in it, but instead of them rather "cryptic" characters.

My question is:
Is this a problem of my gmail installation or a problem of the installation of the web browser of my friend?

If you want to send a email in German language then you select the language and write a email and sent it.
