Reactivating an old Gmail address: how do i do it?

Hey all-

A few months ago i deactivated my gmail account, and would now like to return to it permanently. The problem is that when i deactivated my account it deactivated my old (preferred) gmail address with my full name, so now when i type it in with my old password, it says that it isn't valid. When i try re-registering/my old gmail address, it says that it is "not available".

So, HELP! How do i go about retrieving/reactivating my old gmail address?

You don't, that's the point of deactivating it.

Yep, it's gone, for the foreseeable future. The best you can do now is get a new one that is a close approximation, using perhaps a dot or an underscore.
