Gmail just won't open

Neither in Maxthon or IE.
The word 'Loading' appears on the left of the screen, the progress bar fills up in the bottom tray, but then the process just repeats itself endlessly as the address in the address box seems to go through number after number as the prog tries to open.
I'm on XP with SP2.
Have scanned for viruses with updated PC Cillin v12 but found nothing.
The alerts about there being no information on the revoking of security certificates have increased. I did not get any before, but now there are always two (identical) before the prog gets locked into the 'endless opening' phase as described. I installed a certificate but that made no difference.

Hmm...
My Computer simply opens Gmail!
It takes two progress bars but then it opens.
What URL do you take? mail.google.com?
I took mail.google.com and it worked.
I don't have the Service Pack 2 on my machine, but I don't think this is the problem!

Well, since Maxthon is an IE shell, I'm not surprised that you'd get the same results in each.
Try doing a thorough cleaning. Cookies, cache, history. If still no luck, also do saved form content.
Still no luck? Firefox.

I have this problem when accessing Gmail at work.

Are you the administrator on your PC?
How high is your securtiy on IE?
Does it work on Firefox or Opera?
Try also scanning with Ad-Aware and Spybot - Search and Destroy (both free) and if you were using an old PC-Cillin (2003 or previous), try housecall.trendmicro.com

yes, it's true that gmail doesn't open in IE since Jan 24..
i have the same problem

The problem is usually with either javascript (security settings) or cookies (not allowed, or an old one is corrupt and should be delete).

If you just want to check mail, and not do anything fancy, you could also try changing the mode of your account to "Basic HTML".
