Gmail Chat powered by Google Talk

Quote:
New! Chat is coming soon

Chat with your friends from right inside Gmail. There's no need to load a separate program or look up new addresses. It's just one click to chat with the people you already email, as well as anyone on the Google Talk network. And now you can even save and search for chats in your Gmail account.

We've started rolling this out to all Gmail accounts, so yours should have it soon. It's good to chat.

Here's what it looks like.

Thanks intelliot. This feature will come in handy. It never surprises me what Google will do next. I stay amazed by their productivity. What a ride it has been for all of us, so far!

Ah, so it is new. I was just wondering about that in another thread,
after seeing that they'd already added the Chat 'folder'. Or label. Or whatever they're calling it.

Just another way that Google is making the world a easier place to communicate and one uping the competition. I love it. Whom ever gets it first let us know so that we can test it out with each other.

That's kind of the interesting part. It looks like a text chat thing is right there in the mail, without actually having to use Google talk.
That could be handy, sometimes.

Indeed, this could be nice, and Gmail is once more innovating but don't you think that the interface might be quite overloaded with the chat in addition to the rest ?
An idea could be to let the user decide what he wants or not, I'm thinking about webclips also which is nice to have but that I don't really use ...

Hmmm...finding features suggested by me (of course I'm sure I wasn't the only one) right after GTalk launch is somehow nice.

Disabling Chat

I really rate gmail and a lot of the students at my school use it, but I can't allow them to access chat in school.

Can anyone think of a way I can disable it in school but still allow access to gmail? The only other option I'll have is to ban access to gmail totally!

Any thoughts appreciated!

Thanks

Chris
