This can be situations when some one else knows my password and has been logging in to read my emails. Is there any kind of software, which can be installed or if gmail provides any functionality like this.o

Hi,

Just to add. I want to know the IP address of the person who has logged into my gmail account to check my mails. Basically it should notify me onsome othermail account that my gmail account is being accessed by the above IP. Is there any software or some settings inside gmail through which I can do this.

I don't think that exists. Forget the software as it would need to be installed on the server side (on the server hosting your gmail account).
I never seen such a functionnality on google, I know that some webmail are displaying the last time you logged in (date - time - ip) (imp does that I think) but I don't think google has it. But they obviously log the IP of people logging in gmail to be able react to complains and laws issues...

Only you should be able to access your Gmail account. If you suspect your account has beem compromised, change your password immediately.

You are totally right if you do suspect someone can access your account you should change your password straight away!
