Protect your AdSense ads from accidental clicks - guaranteed

Hi,

I guess everyone here has in one point or another accidentaly clicked on their own AdSense ads. Until now, when I was checking out my web site, I was always doing that with extreme caution. I know, Google usually dismisses your own clicks, but who wants to take that risk?

Yesterday I found this PDF file, that has 2 very simple methods for ensuring you never again click your own ads. Methods listed are very simple.

One you probably all already know - disable JavaScript.

The second one includes using the hosts file on your computer. By using the hosts file you block domains that serve ads. The procedure goes something like this.

- Find the hosts file on your computer. For win XP it's in c:&bkfls;windows&bkfls;system32&bkfls;drivers&bkfl s;etc&bkfls;hosts

- Open the file with Notepad
- Add 127.0.0.1 pagead2.googlesyndication.com
- For all other domains that serve ads you should add a line like this:
127.0.0.1 pagead2.googlesyndication.com
Just replace the pagead2.google..... with the domain serving ads

That PDF has a list of all Google domains and subdomains that are serving ads, and that should be blocked for the purpose of not showing AdSense ads.

I would post a link to the PDF file for more information, but I'm not sure if that is allowed. Just to be on the safe side, if anyone is interested in the PDF, pm me, and I'll send you the link

OR:

You could use Firefox and download AdBlock. That way you see no adverts again anywhere. Great for an ad-free surfing experience, and ensures you don't click your own links.

mondine is an unknown quantity at this point
And another Firefox extension that would work is NoScript, which allows you to permit or deny scripts by domain.

Personally I think blocking ads on websites is downright stupid and idiotic for people to do. Alot of people work hard on the sites that you visit and enjoy. They place ads on their site to help pay for hosting, domains, and for the amount of time they poor into their site. Then people want to get upset at all these sites that are leaving advertising and just charging subscription rates for their sites. I would rather look at a few ads then have to pay subscription rates! I bet half of you that have these extentions and programs that block ads have your own websites and run ads on them! Makes no sense. Sorry for my little ramble but I just think its rediculous for people to stop people who devote time into a site from earning a profit. Just my ideas and you can take them or leave them....doesn't matter to me...

This post was started with ideas on blocking AdSense ads, but not on other people's web sites, but on your own, so that you don't accidentaly click your own ads. Google is supposed to discount your own clicks, but you can never be too careful.

I haven't yet tried nor AdBlock neither NoScript..
if the ads are not shown.. is there something as placeholder? I mean, if the space where the ads were becomes empty, the whole layout might become a crap.

It's really good in that sense. AdBlock just takes out the code of the adverts, so Firefox renders the page as though the code was never there.
Webpages look normal (or better, since they scrap the ads).

You didn't understand me.. there are those standard-hater image based sites, where if something is missing the whole structure craps. Got it?
