Which ways you use to get more traffic?

I was just wondering as if what ways everyone use to advertise your forum and site?brbrLike I do followingbrbr1. Advertise in all forums I joinbr2. Word of Mouthbr3. Submitting URL to various search engines etc. etc.brbrHow abt you?br

2) AdWords
3) Link building forum sig links etc (mainly to help improve search results traffic is a bonus)

Getting a good position in search engines?

There is no simple answer. SE's are continually updating their algorithyms that will affect the position of a website or page on a website.

Generally speaking, if your site is not considered an "authority", it's tough. However, there are things you can do to still get free traffic from the search engines.

You'll want to optimize instead for keyword phrases in a very defined niche.

Then you need to build up incomming links with anchor text using that keyword phrase. The best way to start doing this is by submitting articles to all the major article directories. The next step will be to start a reciprocal linking campaign targeted towards related sites who have good position already and/or high page rank.

Combine your total linking strategy with onpage optimization of the keyword phrase which includes the usual metatags, h1,h2, bold, density, and image alt text. Also building your google site map wouldn't hurt.

Over time, you'll build up your page rank and position in the search engines for that specific keyword phrase.

Avoid "blackhat" techniques that may only work for a short time, but will possibly get you banned altogether. This includes building thousands of doorway pages, forum and blog spamming.

In the end, it's about quality content that visitors and other websites will bookmark. Think about all the sites that people visit with free quality information. Many of them do very little optimization, yet enjoy tons of traffic from search engines and bookmarks/links because of their quality content.

Personally, I've found that active forum participation and article writing/submission are the best ways to increase traffic and revenues.

Everything else seems to come naturally when you focus on these two elements.

Do directories really work? Almost all the ones that I've seen look
like they are MFA and nothing that anyone would ever visit in order to
learn about a subject. There are a few big, professional sites, like
about.com, but these are not the sort of places where you can just
submit your articles.br
