Database versus HTML pages
Hi
Not sure how page ranking etc will affect my site potential to earn money since I have changed it. The site is about helping people get work offshore on oilrigs. Any services I offer are completely free and I rely of adsense to help with the costs. Theres lots on external sites mentioned on it that were originally returned just by selecting different sections that took people to different pages with the external links and any comments on number of jobs the various companies were looking for etc. The new site is database driven so every thing is on a lot less pages but with a lot more info. I am happy with how adsense is setup as I note that when different topics in the database is selected adsense changes to suit. But the revene is down by 60% just wonder if theres a negative issue with using a database. |

There are no negatives for using a DB. However, you can run into trouble easily - brbr* Are the ads still targeted okay? change in form may change taretingbr* Are you seeing the same amount of traffic? Maybe your SEO was hit by the changebr* You say you now have 'a lot less pages'. I think this might be the problem, no? Less pages = less ads. Also, if you have a lot of info on the same page, maybe people don't want to click and leave, they find it all in the page.brbrbr

Its funny the more and more I think about this. On the old site I had never bothered with it in a year, 30% of links never worked, the navigation was bad, just to name a few. Now the new site is slick the content is updated and fresh and the google adds blend into the site well and are "not in your face". So I really think on the old site people couldnt find what they wanted so they clicked the adds. Now they can find what they want easily and they dont bother with the ads so much as my stats tell me page views are up 300% and time spent on site is trebled. Its only been changed for a fortnight so will update you how it gets on.
