Double standards with Google Adsense and Engadget

There seems to be some double standards going on here with Google. Engadget, the Number one site on Technorati that brings in millions of pageviews per month seems to have no less than 5 google non-banner link ads on their front page (under their posts). I have been monitoring that site for almost a year now and it hasn't changed.

Google's policy states

* Up to three ad units may be displayed on each page.
* A maximum of two Google AdSense for search boxes may be placed on a page.
* A single link unit may also be placed on each page.

Unfair and unjust is the word -- as a lot of parties (including me) have been penalized for putting more than 3 ads on our site and yet a big marketing giant like that gets away with it.

Is Google purposely turning the other way and conveniently 'turning a bling eye' because Engadget is a big time customer that generates a lot of advertising revenue for them in the first place? So they are allowed to monetize their site more, earn more money in the process and the smaller guys aren't?

If Google displays this kind of double standard behavior, what is the point of having the policies and regulation in the first place. Google has displayed a trend here where they seem to be strict with one and not with the other. I can name several other sites to but I named Engadget as they are one of the biggest tech sites out there. Isn't it typical that in this corporate driven world that the big fish are the ones that stand to get away with a lot of things at the expense of the smaller ones.

Go see for yourself and count the ads on the Engadget home page. I kid you not. I have also screen printed it for proof.

BTW: I have screenprints of the current Engadget site and several sites if somehow the ads mysteriously the ads disappear in the process.
