I have been advertising for a while, and I calculated total money I got; divided them by total page views, and got a CPM of less than 10 cents. Why?

Why not? It depends on many factors including the type of visitors your site gets, the placement of the ads on your site, etc.

Who said conspicuously was good? I find that it can be better to have them blend in.

I can't necessarily make them blend in, because everyone designs their page appearance themselves, and Google ads are the only thing they cannot change the location or appearance of. Of course, I don't have permission from Google to modify their script, or I could generate a script that would set the ad appearance to blend in with the page... Therefore, I just stuck them into a location which seems conspicuous to me. So anyways, what DID you mean by saying 'the type of visitors my site gets'?
