    Adsense Profits Low

I started a website that mainly jut has stories about politics, government, and news on it. I know that I can't even begin to compete with the big news networks no matter how hard I try.

Yesterday I had 287 page impressions and 2 clicks. I made $.10 total yesterday and $.10 the day before that.

Can someone tell me if a news and opinion site is the way to go, or if I should change it to something else that may be more profitable. I am willing to do research and change to anything more profitable, but right now I am stuck.

I need to start pulling in some decent profits fairly soon (atleast $5 a day) because I need gas money to drive to school.

    you have some choices ..

increase your page views , you know that so far 287 impressions = 2 clicks , so 1 click per 150 page impressions should be normal .
each click is 5c and u want $5 so you need 100 clicks a day.
so you need 100 X 150 = 15000 page impressions per day.. (thats a lot in my opinion)

start putting subjects into the site that will earn you more per click, try to keep them relevant to the main theme but things that pay more.
do a article about how all the call centres (phone help desk) jobs are moving away from the UK and the USA to India and how is this affecting the unemployment rate and what are politicians doing about it.
"Call centre" clicks are more than 5c each.

What you can do pages on is dependant on which country you are aiming at , UK , USA, Canada or ..?

Start another site, dont close your old one down, as every 10c ads up.

do niche research first though aim for subjects at $1 per click and you wont be swamped with competition yet you will still make some nice money.

Well, I have looked for words that would work on the existing site such as Republican, Democrat, Liberal, and Conservative and all of those are going for about $1.00 for the dating sites. I also know a little about computers and some of the stuff about computers is going for over $1.00

Every click is NOT going to be 5 cents. I had one click where it was worth $5.00.

    I dont understand this post?

No one said every click is worth 5c?
    I get lots of $1 - $1.50 clicks..

A few of your $5 ones would be even better though..

Cobra .. get adding more pages to the site, the more pages you have the better it is for you..

I currently have 12 pages and that includes the articles. Without the article pages there are 6 pages. I am also having trouble gaining traffic. Today I've only had 4 visits.

hey, you cannot pass judgement with only 2 clicks. Try to generate over 100 clicks a day and then you can conclude that the Adsense payout is increasing or decreasing.

The ads payout are different. I have even expreience of one click and $40 in some very special keywords.

The guys clicking on the ads are also important. Forexample if you get clicks from Afghanistan you should not expect a big payout while american visitors will give you the best money from Adsense.

I don't think I'd have trouble getting clicks if I just had some traffic. I submitted to over 30 search engines the other day, but I've heard that I may not be indexed for over a month on many of them. Any ideas on how to get some traffic before then?

Yes, I know it's statistical but to someone else it may give them the wrong impression.

You are right you need more traffic..
you can start by putting a link to your site in your forum signature.

put links to you site in your email sigs, on every forum you post to. Join relevant forums and just post a "hello message" dont spam

start swapping links with other sites.

write a article about a subject relevant to your site and submit it to .
    www.goarticles.com
    www.ezinearticles.com

and any other article submission sites you find.

A list of more directorys can be found at
    http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/showthread.php?t=239923

it takes time but start right now..
    good luck

Cobra, the first thing you will need to learn, is that for everuthing including this business, it takes time and a lot of work before things start going the way you would like them to go.

I suggest that for now you forget about CTR, and focus only on your website promotion. Sure that CTR is important, but what use is a good CTR on pages without any targeted visitors? So, you need traffic, a lots of traffic. The best option is if the traffic is well targeted, than you won't need to do any hard work regarding increasment of your CTR, since the people coming to your website will know what are they looking for, and follow the ads.

Keep those things in mind, and good luck.
