Difference between google ads and google adsense

This is my first post in a forum, so I apologize, in advance, if I'm asking a dumb question.

I have not begun yet with either, but I have searched for information all day and every site says yes...you can make money. There is so much information and each one touts different ideas, e-books and different software.
I do know you need a website, but I don't want to spend the rest of my life doing this one thing. (technically challenged)

What is the difference between google ads and google adsense?

Do you need a separate portal sites (or is the term, website) for each of these 2 terms?

What are the essentials or steps required to begin google ads or Adsense?

google ads are the actual adverts but google adsense is the advertising scheme, and you don't need different sites to have both of them

A dumb Question is the one not asked. Rusty answered one of the question. I'm a little long winded so I can hit the other two.

The first thing you need is a website. Second you need traffic.(only if you want money). Websites can be as easy as blogger or blogspot. You will want a theme(keyword). Since you are from New zealand. Write about New Zealand. Or a hobby you have. After 5-6 entries sign-up for adsense.

Do you need a separate portal sites (or is the term, website) for each of these 2 terms? Adsense picks up keywords from your website. If you have a site about New zealand they will show ads relating to New Zealand. If your sites on soup, you get soup and cooking website ads.

If your technically challanged. This is your best bet. good luck

You need a site with some content to get an adsense account. If you get a blog make one entry then try for adsense you might not get accepted.(you might). So do a few to 5-6 this way you know they won't reject you.
