Google Adsense - Common Questions

I went through many websites, blogs and forums talking about the good and bad things about adsense, few things that worries me are:

1. What will happen if someone (may be anywhere in the world) intentionally (or unintentionally) clicks on our advertisements that may lead to abnormal amount of click throughs?

2. What if because of some reasons (i.e. participation in trade fair, publishing article in newspapers or magazines) our site gets fludded with clicks all of a sudden?

3. We are modeling our site(s) in a way where it will provide our clients with maximum services under one website, our clients are schools, colleges, universities and corporates where we will provide training to the users as of how to use our website so as to find a given set of information. This way our website is expected to notice good amount of hits from one IP (as one institution will be using one leased line for all the nodes by NATting it). Will google consider this traffic as legitimte one?

4. Can we publish 3rd party advertisements (either via direct marketing or via advertising agencies) on the same page where we have google advertisements displayed?

5. We conducted a test with few of our clients where they have been asked to use our website(s) for a day, our monotoring software (video grabber) revealed the fact that while using "AdSense for search" people start clicking right from the topmost option even without looking at the heading that says "Ads by Gooooogle", thus we anticipate good amount of CTR for our portals. Will this hi-CTR cause any problem later?

6. Can we somehow see as of what keywords people are using on our "AdSense for search" along with the types of other advertisements they have been clicking on?

7. We plan to setup a backup server with exactly same content and would like to name it differently, is it permitted to flash advertisements on both of the servers having same content?

Thanks in advance,

1. Not much you can do here. People rarely run into trouble with this however. Google knows what kind of site you have and what similar sites do. If your CTR is too high, expect it to be looked at. Otherwise, there's not much you can do so why worry?

2. You should be so lucky! You can worry yourself all day long with "what ifs", but what does this get you? Don't panic yourself for no reason. If you must do this however, consider that AdSense isn't for everyone. If you are prone to not sleeping because you are worried about what ifs, then this program probably isn't for you.

3. IP isn't the only consideration in Google's log analysis. However, you might consider writing a note to Google (through your account) advising them of this in advance and letting them know the situation. Google takes proactive contacts very seriously and they are logged on the account. Explaining yourself in advance is far better than trying to explain it if you were accused.

4. Sure, so long as they are not contextual ads that are similar in form and function to Google ads.

5. Probably not on it's own unless it's just crazy high. It might generate a look from them just to make sure that you aren't asking people to click on the links. Just stay squeaky clean and you shouldn't have a problem.

6. Nope! This is Google's information, not yours or mine. And if this were available, it would be grand info for Yahoo etc to grab as well. Google wants a nice spread of clicks, not everyone going for the highest and best. However, consult your referrer log files and you should be able to tell who has done what.

7. You could run into problems here. At the very least, you will run duplicate content penalties on the second site. I would not speak for Google here, but putting up a duplicate site running AdSense might be frowned on.
