trying to get started.

I have some questions guys. I am wanting to start a website and am getting ready to register a domain and get my site put up. I am going to sign up for adsense and I was just thinking to myself, "How do I get people to see my site?" Do I have to register for the adwords or anything to have the search results from search engines to come up with my page? I was just curious what determines how high up on the search result list your site is? Thanks guys and hope to get some good replies.

Absolutely not. Basically, if you build your site right, it will be indexed automatically by most search engines. You can also submit your site manually to each search engine. The key is to have good keyword content. How high your site will rank for a given search term can depend on many factors: How many competing sites are brought up from that term?, if it is a high value term?, do other sites pay for placement under that term?, etc...

It's a good idea to put a hit counter on your site (there are free ones like statcounter.com) that will tell you how people are finding your site. This will show what terms they typed in at what search engine to draw up your site. This will give you an idea of where to consentrate your efforts.

A good place to start is dmoz found here:

http://www.dmoz.org/

Click on "Suggest URL" and determine what category your site matches.
Once you determine which category your site is in, you go to that category to submit your site.

Individual search engines' submission process will usually be similiar. But they should provide a box for you to submit your keywords as well as a box to submit your URL.

I'm not sure what the "google cash" thing is but it's most likely a forum Q & A reward system.

In that case, I'm not worthy...as there are many who could have given much more thorough answers than I.

Re: trying to get started.

Google keep declining my application for an adsence account. The funny thing is they allow it first, then when i have about £100 accumulated i get this funny email "Hello raj ahluwalia, Your AdSense account was found to be related to an account previously disabled for invalid click activity and we have therefore disabled your we have therefore disabled your account.

I dont know how google come to this conclusion. I have talked to my flat mates( we all share one broadband0 and beleive google may be holding data against the common IP address. Is this legal under the data protection act 1998 ? The tale thickens , one of the room mates applied from the same broadband and he was accepted. Know i leave it for you to decide what is going on but check this out

John Smith - Accepted

Raj Walia - continously rejected

I beleive not all is OK at google UK. I just beleive for ethical reasons people should not advertise with google any more
Good Luck

Not sure how that pertains to my post and it seems that you are hijacking some posts.

That is GC 'currency', a small additional incentive for posting that can be used for various puposes in Google Community.
See This thread
and others in the Announcements & Feedback forum for more information.

(p.s. I agree with you about the post 'hijacker', and the matter has been addressed.)

Try out adwords to get traffic to your site. It is very effective, but can get costly. Hopefull the adsense on your site get more clicks than the adsense ads though lol. Let us all know how it is going when you are up and running. Good Luck.

I am not quite sure what you mean by adsense getting more clicks than the adsense ads? Did you mean the adsense getting more clicks than the adwords? Thanks again. By the way are you using adwords right now? Has it been profitable? I am wanting to get started just a little worried about the cost, but the ability to set the amount that I want to spend each day is good information to know. I may just end up starting out with adsense and get some traffic flowing through my site and then start with adwords. Hopefully by then I will have some traffic coming through and the adwords will be worth the risk.
