Angry essexdvds.com took my money!! UK.

Hello, I am in the UK, I purchased some DVD's from essexdvds.com through Google Checkout, the DVD's never showed up by the time they told me they should arrived, when I asked for clarificaton of the shipping details, I got an Auto reply telling me that Google had shut them down and I shoud contact Google to get a refund, as they were holding the money.
google checkout do not want to know, even though they knew of problems with this seller, b ut didnot notify any buyers who had connections with essexdvds
I bought them as Google is a big name and I figured they would have done checks on any seller using their money clearing system.
Is Google Liable? How can I make a claim against them? As they had approved the seller?
Anyone else with an issue with this company essexdvds/fusiondvds?

I don't think that you have a chance of refund.

I have exactly the same problem!
I was told the dvds had shipped and they didn't arrive as expected on the 22/23 Dec as I was told. But I assumed it was due to Christmas etc so waited. Went on today to contact the seller to find them closed down! I to trusted the company because Google is usually so good. There is an option to mediate if you do not receive a reply to your contacting the seller. They put a message up saying contact Google, very cheeky considering they are the ones at fault. Perhaps contacting the police for fraud might be more appropos.

I've had same experience

Essex DVDs did the same to me - ordered wire box set, sent email that it had been despatched and would arrive 22/23 December,

I cannot believe the attitude of the guy from Google on this thread, that we have no chance of any refund,

I'm sure Essex DVDs have ripped off many more people - all who trusted the Google name - and that's all this joker has to say on the issue! Not even an apology?

Google should not have allowed this seller to use their facility in the first place, as soon as a problem was discovered they should have shut them down.

The checkout was done through Google therefore don't they have a responsibility to investigate? Surely they know where the money went?

We should all report this to the police and make an attempt to report it to the same department so they might take notice,

I'd imagine these scammers made ten's of thousands in the run up to Christmas, I'm really appalled that Google just doesn't seem to care.

If anyone's reported this to the cops yet can you give me the name and department of the officer you spoke to

Did you pay by credit card? Contact your bank if Google doesn't refund.

I paid by Visa Debit Card so I will look into it if they don't refund through Google.

Thanks for the help though!

What you want to look into is 'Visa Debit Chargeback'.
If the goods are damaged or do not arrive you can use this to claim your money back so long as it's within 120 days of the expected delivery or the company folding.

Good luck.

I had the same problem with essexdvds and I also paid by debit card. However, when i emailed Google they told me to sort out a debit card chargeback with my bank and that they would support my claim. My bank have put the money back into my account and are sending me a declaration to sign. So definitely worth talking to your bank about!
