Google Developers READ THIS - Desktop Suggestions for improvemen
Here are two simple improvements for Google Desktop (GDS) that I believe are very important for this produce. I hope Google developers are listening and take this to heart.
[1] Indexing process - report status of files indexed
I want the index status screen to report the actual status of indexing files on fixed drives. Currently when looking at the status page, there is no way to know if GDS still has substantial files to be indexed on the fixed drives. Perhaps report this as "NN of MM files indexed". This feature directly impacts the quality of a search. If I know that not all files have been indexed, then I know there is a chance that my search may have missed some files. Not knowing this, I have no way to know if the files I am searching for exist or if GDS have not yet finished indexing and the files may have been missed.
[2] Allow user to tweak frequency of index process
The index process is very slow. I want the opportunity to tell GDS to "index now" and not worry about the hit I may take on computer resources. I also want to tell GDS how sensitive it should be to the computer's idle time when indexing so that I can make GDS index faster or slower.
