MSN Virtual Earth To Take On Google Earth

It looks like Msn is going to compete against Google Earth (formerly know as keyhole), what do you people make of this for both company's, considering NASA also as a map software package that's free.

MSN Virtual Earth To Take On Google Earth

Microsoft sends news today that founder Bill Gates has announced a MSN Virtual Earth service is to debut in the summer. The service is promised to provide:

>Satellite images with 45-degree-angle views of buildings and neighborhoods

>Satellite images with street map overlays

>Ability to add local data layers, such as showing local businesses or restaurants
The service will allow users to choose from a number of different data types plus allow people to contribute their own information. The announcement came today at the D3 conference happening this week.

Here are some screenshots from the service to come.

Last week, Google announced that its Keyhole software allowing satellite views of the Earth will be renamed Google Earth. Better images will also be available to those getting satellite views via Google Maps. In addition, Google Maps has also been getting enhanced by others adding on data from other sources. More on this in is covered in our Google Factory Tour Recap post.

So, the planned Microsoft service will help MSN compete against some Google gains in this area, not to mention moves others like Yahoo have been making with maps.

How do you think which company wants "Apple" not to exist? I think "Microsoft" would be in the lead in this list=)
You know both of them try not to conflict but...
But there was strange thing with one of the services of MSN actually Virtual Earth. According to this project the headquarters of "Apple" consisted of 11 buildings, Virtual Earth show only one building which look like an old shed=)

Competition is always good. They finally benefit the consumers. If not for so many competitors, Microsoft would continue to rip us off with its outrageous prices.

the last and second last line , i liked that , yes , but if microsoft enters this monopolised google earth , surely , google will bring a blast by putting google earth version 2
or so and yes , they are masters , they will connect satellites directly and show live images of the earth , live images means video clips !
current or live say , anything is possible here!
nothing is impossible!

The software provided by NASA may be good in terms of image quality. However, they ran very slowly on my computer. Beside, if I am going to choose, I will probably choose the one provided by company that specializes in software haha (no hard feeling to NASA)haha
