India Revealed
There are many pictures of Indian cities which are sensitive , the restricted area , near gate way of india , that are the naval docks and the navy ships are easily seen with the help of Google earth , i am an Indian and I didnt knew , whether , India has even naval submarines , and what i see is fact in google earth , well thats severe and I object to it , since it breaks privacy of a nations technology , i can now easily say that there are 2 aircraft carriers , which are currently lying in docks and 5 submarines easily seen , even the BARC - Bhabha Atomic Research Centre , can be viewed nicely in this version of google earth , the Nuclear Reactor can be seen very finely , which again brings trouble to the country , well i think that these sensitive images shall be removed , even the respected president of India - Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam , has questioned google regarding this step , United States was successful in removing pics of Washington DC , and I think , India shall be also successful. Thats breakage of our Privacy!

Okay, thanks for your complaining. Google gets the images from a company that takes the photos and just puts them up. So if a country really didn't want this area seen, they would go to the originating company who took the pictures as well.

uh huh, you just think that while everyone laughs at you. Get Google Earth, then look at the copyright on the image. It will say a company. For example, the geneeral view of India that i'm look at says EarthSat. However for close up views another company may have taken them.
You really think Google takes these pictures? If you say yes then you'd be so wrong. |

ok , but at least google should.....
whomsoever it may be , u and i accept the fact that the images are sensitive and since we can see them on google earth , google.inc is responsible for the images what they publish on their server , whether the image , must be kept or removed , it is google's decision , whomsoever takes the picture , thats not important , what the picture is , thats important , we cannot blame the company for this , but since they r in google's software , we can atleast force them via govt. to remove those images , i think , atleast google has that power to do , when it can put an image somewhere in its programs , then surely it can remove them.
(NOTE- I am just 16 years old , an Indian , sorry for the argument , but its essential for country's privacy , i think , that on this community , there are no Indians , who are thinking about this situation , so at last , i think that whatsoever the age , i can fight , well i have very less knowledge , but i have google earth. And even consider the nuclear reactor at trombay peak, the argument is never ending , till google doesnt removes the images , even the president is concerned) |

Well, I can understand your concern. It is, a real, and sensitive issue. But it is also a complicated one.
Google is not alone in providing materials such as these. Microsoft offers a very similar on-line product, as do numerous private companies. Rules that are put in place must apply to all companies equally, or some will enjoy an unfair advantage in the open market. There is also the issue of who will decide what areas should be restricted from public view. It's not as simple as it sounds. If it is done simply at the request of governments, there are some nations that may decide that the majority of their nation's land mass should be shrouded in secrecy. The result would be a satellite view of the Earth that looked like a World map of 400 years ago, with great expanses of 'unknown' territory. The only rational solution will come from international consultation, agreements and treaties. Any citizen with concerns should encourage their own politicians to pursue this on the world stage, in an appropriate venue such as the UN, or WTO. There is very little point in being upset with one corporation. |

Maybe Google should remove the pictures, but the Indian government has to pursue action through an international court, or in the USA, as Google is not an Indian company. And then again, there is a chance that the judge presiding over the case will rule in favour of Google, and above that, there are also vetos. Anyway, Google should know better, and they need to get their geography right, southern Kashmir is in India, not Pakistan.
