Feel sorry for me
I don't have Google Earth because I have a dinosaur of a computer, however, I have a question.
How old are the maps on Google Earth? I saw Google Earth on a new computer but I didn't like several things about it. One being that it got fuzzier when you zoomed in. Windows live.local.com is pretty cool but I'm not sure how old their photos are. But at least you could zoom in and see clearly. Is this technology something that should be put in the hands of everyday people? If these maps and photos of earth get to the point of being live, how is anyone going to have privacy? Also, I'm sure the gov. already has live technology for this very thing. Is this in good hands or how much corruption can we look forward to with these types of programs? With all the negatives, there are positives and I would love to have Google Earth. However, I would probably never leave my desk chair so I better leave it alone. It will make a nice retirement activity someday. That's about all I have to say. I won't be sunbathing nude, you can bet on that. Haha! |

I'm saddled with a dinosaur, as well, but I use the online versions. (I can see my house. For some reason, this seems very exciting.)
For the most part, the photos seem to be two or three years old. I can tell, in my area, from construction that was going on in my neighbourhood. And I've heard a lot of people say something similar. As for those live zoom shots, I'm not too concerned. The people I really worry about- the Evil Idle Rich and governments, can probably already do that. As for future problems, they'll probably be with infra-red or resonance imaging, so who'll be laughing, then; when the people with tinfoil on their ceilings are the only ones prepared! |

Regarding the resolution, it depends on where in the world you are(relatively speaking, i.e., meaning in Google Earth), you get different resolutions. Google is trying to keep up and get current and good res. images everywhere. For now, the most populated places, and areas of high interest have the best images. Please note the two placemarks I have posted below. One is Buckingham Palace which you can see PEOPLE. People aren't hard to see.
Now, I will give you this, some places still have cartoonish images, but they will eventually be updated. If you read their FAQ or check out http://bbs.keyhole.com you will find that they are working hard to update images on a regular basis. You should remember that sat imagery is expensive and the service is free for those who don't elect to pay for it and use it's advanced features. I responded that I'm in denial, cause I really don't like to think about all the worlds evils, but I do. You can see my house and car.
Much of what Google does is scary if you think about it. The information they have on everyone, the tech behind it. Let's hope they remain good eggs. You want hurt my feelings should you decide to lay around in the buff and catch some rays. Don't forget the SPF 30. |

To make such images live would require SOO many sats and cams and SOO much bandwidth that it would be basically impossible to do at this time and age and won't happen for a very very long time.
Even then, the images are updated depending on which company takes the photos as each area comes from a different company. |

I can't even get a close-up of my town, let alone my house on Google Earth... haha. I guess that's one of the good things of living in the sticks.
I WOULD be really excited if I could see my house though... that would be cool! |

Of course I would not want anyone to invade my privacy and also it’s a freaky thought of being watched by a stranger or specially a person who knows me and who will be in this activity of keeping an eye on me without me knowing about it.
I have heard that the White House and the MI6 have the access to get live images from any part which they wish to but the particular parts have to be under the surveillance of the cameras. Quote:
All in all I can say that Google Earth is very addictive and if you have nothing to do it can be a great leisure activity. |
